I am pleased to announce that the contract has been signed and the Notice to Proceed has been given to begin construction on the unnamed new Event Center and the upgrade of Briscoe King Pavilion. The groundbreaking is set for Tuesday, September 8th, at 10:30 a.m., and YOU are invited. Please come out and celebrate another phenomenal project on YOUR island. The Nueces County Coastal Parks Board will manage this facility but will be looking for an aggressive operator to really go out and market this facility to those on and off the Island. This event center will bring new visitors to the Island. It will hold up to 300 people in the new, fully air-conditioned event center and 150 people in the upgraded indoor-outdoor Briscoe King Pavilion. This will be a wonderful event-space addition to the Island.
GREAT TURNOUT AT SEASHORE MIDDLE ACADEMY AND FLOUR BLUFF FOR FREE PHYSICALS
I love doing these FREE health events for my constituents. We have served thousands upon thousands of students over the 11 years I have done these throughout my precinct. The turnout was great for the Seashore event and at Flour Bluff High School as well. As long as I am in office, I will do my best to provide these wonderful events for YOU.
COUNTY BUDGET LOOKING AND THE EARLY SIGNS ARE POSITIVE
As I reported in the last edition, thanks to County Judge Connie Scott, the Commissioners Court, and all elected officials and department heads in Nueces County, Nueces County is in the strongest financial position we have been in for years. Now, that does not mean we are overflowing with extra money. It means we have more in reserves than our policy dictates, and our county budget is healthy. My hope is that means we can pass a budget this year with NO TAX INCREASE. I will continue to advocate for not raising your taxes, and I am hopeful the majority of the Commissioners Court will join me this year in voting for the NO NEW TAX RATE, which means your taxes would not be raised. Judge Connie Scott has done an outstanding job with this year’s budget, and it looks to be one of the best ones we have seen.
PARKER POOL ENJOYED ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SEASON
I am thankful to the Friends of Aquatics and the wonderful local lifeguards we have at Parker Pool in Flour Bluff. This public pool is highly used by both Flour Bluff and Island residents. It is in really good shape after its most recent upgrades that I was able to find money for.
PORT A VETERANS MEMORIAL MOVING ALONG
I am very excited about this project. We are working very hard to get the Veterans Memorial done in Port Aransas. I am hopeful to have a groundbreaking for that soon as well. Stay tuned. Things are really happening in Precinct 4.
SANDCASTLE RUN IS COMING ALONG
This is a big year for my Sandcastle Run. The 10-year anniversary of the run is upon us. We missed one year for COVID, so it is the tenth year we have run the race. Thanks to State Representative Todd Hunter, the race will once again be FREE to all runners and walkers, so please sign up at VFit. Judge Connie Scott is the presenting sponsor, and I am greatly appreciative of her support. The event is set for Saturday, October 17, 2028, at 8 a.m. at Padre Balli Park.
Brent Chesney – Nueces County Commissioner, Precinct 4.
