THANKS TO THE LEADERSHIP OF COUNTY JUDGE CONNIE SCOTT AND THE COMMISSIONERS COURT
Nueces County currently has more in reserves than ever. The county has done this while maintaining a lower tax rate than it had 15 years ago. Much of this should be credited to the fiscally responsible leadership of Nueces County Judge Connie Scott and all elected officials in Nueces County. Judge Scott has done things differently. She is inclusive, firm, and decisive. Connie Scott has been a positive game changer in Nueces County.
We have done millions of dollars of improvement on the Island, and none of these projects that I have worked on would be possible without the support of Nueces County Judge Connie Scott and the Commissioners Court. I appreciate Connie Scott and am so pleased she is our County Judge.
10TH ANNIVERSARY OF SANDCASTLE RUN TO HAPPEN OCTOBER 17
It is hard to believe that the 10th Sandcastle Run is upon us. When I started this run to benefit children with diabetes, I never thought it would be this successful. Thanks to great sponsors, volunteers, and participants, we have provided almost $400,000 in funds directly to the American Diabetes Association to allow children with diabetes to go to summer camp designed especially for them. If you are interested in sponsoring or volunteering, please call my office at 361-888-0268.
BOB HALL PIER AND RESTAURANT STAY ON BUDGET
We did our final closeout with Callan Marine recently, and I am pleased to report the pier portion of this project finished on budget. The restaurant and concession are underway and are currently on time and on budget as well. The Coastal Parks Board will be issuing an RFP soon to all interested parties to run the restaurant. I have had several interested, quality local entities express interest. Let’s see what that brings about. Great things are happening on the Island.
BRISCOE KING PAVILION AND NEW UNNAMED BUILDING BIDS ARE IN
I am pleased to report that Barcom has been conditionally selected for this job via the bid process. We have value-engineered the project to get in budget, and we are moving forward on that. At the time of writing this article, we have not yet finalized the contract or timeline. Stay tuned for those details.
This project will continue to hold 150 people in the Briscoe King Pavilion and up to 300 in the new unnamed building. It will provide a much-needed public space for venues on the Island that has been lacking for years. You deserve nice projects on the Island, and this will be special. We have already had many inquiries as to when this space will be ready. It is so exciting to see the overwhelming support for this project. This project was funded by the Island Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone, which means your tax dollars are staying on your Island.
SEASHORE MIDDLE ACADEMY IS THE PLACE TO BE FOR NO COST PHYSICALS
I am pleased to announce that once again I am sponsoring this important back-to-school event for Island kids and parents. On August 11 from 4-6 p.m. at Seashore Middle Academy we will have free school physicals for all students heading back to school. I hope you will take advantage of this event that helps bring government to the people. I love providing these events. See you there!
PACKERY CHANNEL NATURE PARK IS ON TIME AND ON BUDGET
Here is another multi-million-dollar grant project happening on your Island. It just gets better and better. Again, without the support of our great County Judge Connie Scott and the Commissioners Court, none of these projects would happen. The support that Judge Connie Scott and the Commissioners Court have given me and the Coastal Parks Board to get these projects done is second to none.
It is an honor to be your county commissioner. This is year 12 for me doing this, and I am looking forward to another 4 years. I am as fired up and ready to work as ever before. Thanks for the opportunity, and God bless you all.
Brent Chesney
Nueces County Commissioner, Precinct 4
